What does our logo tell?
AN ANCIENT INDIAN SYMBOL TO EXPRESS THE WORK OF A MODERN SCIENTIFIC LABORATORY
Ancient Indian symbols beautifully express abstract concepts of living cultures. Visual symbols, like music, is an integral part of life in India. The logo of the laboratory is inspired by the Symbol (yantra) of goddess Saraswati. Goddess Saraswati is the Deity of Wisdom, Knowledge, Cognition and Music. The traditional symbol for goddess Saraswati encompasses everything associated to music. The movement, flow which is very intrinsic to music, is represented by the three strokes rhythmically overlaid on the geometry of this particular symbol. The web of lines which looks like triangles also looks like web of electrodes used in electroencephalogram (EEG) recording , used in our research work.
The Visual Identity emerges from the symbol as the basic form with three strokes that are placed rhythmically in the grid representing flow and the basic elements of music such as Swara (musical notes) and the beat cycle tala. The seven triangles representing the seven notes in music.
The logo also contains the white circles as perceived by our mind based on the principles of closure- in a way highlighting how cognition occurs. Our mind has the ability to complete a figure or sequence of sound even if it is incomplete. The three curved lines seem like the cochlea- which converts the sound vibrations into neural impulses. This Symbol is a modified version of the Saraswati Yantra to highlight the research focus of this laboratory.
